Ushers are often the “first face” of our parish family. This vital ministry of hospitality ensures that every person who enters our doors feels welcomed, comfortable, and prepared to encounter the Lord in the Liturgy. Our ushers are dedicated volunteers who serve with a spirit of kindness and order.

Key Responsibilities

The role of an usher is diverse, blending warm hospitality with essential liturgical and practical duties:

  • Welcoming the Community: Greeting congregants as they arrive and depart, answering questions, and assisting parishioners in finding comfortable seating.
  • Liturgical Preparation: * Opening the church and preparing the lighting for worship.
    – Coordinating the Offertory Procession by setting out the gifts (chalice, water, and wine) and inviting a family to present them to the Priest.
  • Stewardship: Facilitating the offertory collection and ensuring all donations are handled securely and reverently.
  • Information Sharing: Distributing weekly bulletins and ensuring important parish materials are available at all entrances.
  • Church Care: Ensuring the sanctuary is secure by locking the doors once the final parishioners have departed following Mass.

Why Serve as an Usher?

Being an usher is a wonderful way to meet your fellow parishioners and serve the Church without a massive time commitment outside of the Mass you already attend. It is a ministry of “presence” – showing the love of Christ through a simple smile or a helping hand.
