“Those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God’s mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their conversion” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1422).
The Sacrament of First Reconciliation is celebrated as part of St. Jeanne Jugan Parish's religious education program for 2nd graders. Sacramental preparation takes place through weekly attendance at religious education classes. A parent meeting is also held and attendance is required in order to help prepare your child for this special sacrament. Parents who have not availed themselves of the sacrament are encouraged to return to the regular practice of confession to set a good example for their children.
The Sacrament of Confession is offered every Saturday from 2:30-3:30pm at St. Martha Church, 3:00-3:30pm at St. Patrick Church and 3:30-4:00pm at Holy Family Church, and by appointment by simply calling the Parish office. **If only one priest is available that weekend, these times will have to be to adjusted.**
There are many excellent online guides to confession and examinations of conscience. Here is one we recommend: http://www.kofc.org/en/resources/cis/devotionals/2075.pdf. The parish app also has an examination of conscience built in to it, along with a guide to making a good confession. Feel free to bring your smartphone into the confessional if it will make receiving the sacrament easier for you. Download the app by texting the word App to 88202, and follow the instructions for either Apple or Android devices.
