The mission of the Prayer Shawl Ministry is to provide hope, comfort, and healing to those who most need a reminder of God’s love, mercy, and compassion for both the recipient and the crafter. A physical reminder that you are loved, is like a hug from God.
The crafters meet the first Monday of each month from October through June from 1:00PM until 3:00PM in the Good Shepherd Meeting Room at St. Bernard Church.
NEW MEMBERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOMED!
We knit and crochet prayer shawls for members of St. Jeanne Jugan Parish who are seriously ill or who are grieving. Each shawl is begun with prayers and blessings, and upon completion is prayed over by the members with a final blessing given by Father Golas. Our members supply shawls and pocket prayer cloths for the Parish at large and support the Bereavement Ministry. These items are available at both Holy Family Church and St. Bernard Church in the marked box at the back of each church.
We also create and donate items for the poor in Appalachia and South Carolina through the mission work of the Felician Sisters. Baby items are given to Clearway in Springfield, MA, and shawls and Prayer Bears are brought to the elderly at 3 nursing homes in Enfield (Parkway, St. Joseph’s, and Evergreen). These are offered free to the recipients. Materials are donated by the members, however, we have been blessed with donations from families of the recipients and the Women’s Guild.
