Holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation. Those who have been raised to the dignity of the royal priesthood by Baptism and configured more deeply to Christ by Confirmation participate with the whole community in the Lord’s own sacrifice by means of the Eucharist (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1322).
The Sacrament of First Holy Communion is celebrated as part of St. Jeanne Jugan Parish's religious education program for 2nd graders. Sacramental preparation takes place through weekly attendance at religious education classes. Parents should set the example for their children by bringing them to Sunday Mass regularly both before they receive Communion and after.
Children who have advanced past the 2nd grade but have not yet made First Holy Communion are also welcomed to prepare for this sacrament. Arrangements can be made through the parish religious education program to accommodate them, as well as older youngsters who have not been baptized.
