Confirmation, along with Baptism and Eucharist, together constitute the “sacraments of Christian initiation,” whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For “by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1285).
In the Archdiocese of Hartford, Confirmation is usually performed during the 10th grade year. Candidates begin their preparation in the 9th grade; 10th graders are usually confirmed in the Fall. At St. Jeanne Jugan Parish, Confirmation preparation is held on Sunday evenings throughout the school year from 6:00-8 pm at St. Bernard Church (generally every other week). Contact Karen Zeni, Confirmation Assistant, for requirements and registration information: office.confirm@sjjenfield.org or (860)962-4001 ext. 119 .
