June 17, 2021Archbishop Blair has announced the time for the closing Mass of Synod 2020. The pandemic delayed by over a year this special event. The closing Mass will be celebrated at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford on Friday, August 13th at 6:30 pm. As a parish, we have been asked to send a delegation of 28 with our two Synod delegates Karen and Kevin McGuane. I have ordered a bus for our trip which will leave from Holy Family Church parking lot at 4:15 pm. A box lunch will be provided.
For your understanding, a synod is an assembly of various groups representing the faithful of the diocese. Archbishop Blair has convened the Synod 2020 with the theme “Go and Grow”. The focus of the synod has been the need for evangelization, which is a vigorous proclamation of the Gospel to draw others to Christ and the Church. Pope Francis has taught that all who are baptized in Christ are missionary disciples who “ take our personal encounter with Jesus Christ to others”. “Go and Grow 2020“ is an important moment for the Church of the Archdiocese of Hartford to renew and revitalize the way we live out our faith at this time. We pray for the Holy Spirit’s inspiration for the Synod, the Archdiocese of Hartford and our St. Jeanne Jugan Parish.
